CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai international airport have seized 3.125 kg of gold, worth Rs 1.33 crore, and arrested two passengers.
Based on specific intelligence inputs received from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), customs officials intercepted two male passengers, aged 34 and 35 years, who arrived from Dubai in an Emirates flight (EK-542) on Friday, said a press release on Saturday.
On examination of their checked-in baggage, 11 gold wires of 24K purity, weighing 3125 gram and worth Rs 1.33 crore, were found concealed. These gold wires were silver coated to evade detection by customs. The recovered gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
